Pranayama, Meditation and Yoga Nidra

It is important to keep a healthy mind during our daily and sometimes stressful lives. Panayama, Meditation and yoga nidra are amazing techniques that helps us learn to cope with any stressful events that may arise. They help us to develop awareness and mindfulness that can support us in our personal and work environment. Each technique offers something special. Once a week I will be offering 1 hour of selection of these techniques, and how to incorporate this into your daily life. By quieting the mind, and allowing ourselves to just be in the moment, we can access higher consciousness where healing can take place. These classes are perfect for beginners or anyone already on the spiritual path. All are welcome!

What do the Pranayama Classes consist of?

These will start with the basics of developing breath awareness and advancing into a deeper practise. Laying a good foundation to developing a strong practice is important to reap all the benefits. When we begin to breath properly, with a deeper understanding of the breath and the importance thereof we begin to relax and become aware of our selves. We learn to cope better with stress. We oxygenate the body, cells and brain, thereby increasing health.

Pranayama classes:

  • Conscious breathing – Mechanics of breathing, Heightening breath awareness with Respiratory system awareness, and sensitizing the lungs.
  • Basic Breathing methods – Natural abdominal breathing, controlled abdominal breathing, thoracic breathing. Clavicular breathing, Paradoxical breathing and yogic breathing
  • Preliminary breathing practices
  • Awareness of subtle breath and practices
  • Nadi Shodhana Pranayama practice
  • Tranquilizing Pranayama’s
  • Vitalizing Pranayama’s

The breath is the most vital process of the body. It influences the activities of each and every cell and most importantly is linked to the performance of the brain. Respiration fuels the burning of oxygen and glucose, producing energy to power every muscular contraction, glandular secretion and mental process. The breath is intimately linked to all aspects of human experience. The practices given in class are techniques which introduce correct breathing habits. Rhythmic, deep and slow respiration stimulates and is stimulated by calm, content, states of mind. Irregular breathing disrupts the rhythms of the brain and leads to physical , emotional and mental blocks, these in-turn leads to inner conflicts, unbalanced personality, a disordered lifestyle and disease. Proper breath control forms a bridge between the conscious and unconscious areas of the mind

While we begin to develop a strong pranayama practice, at class and at home, we will also do meditation and yoga nidra.

What is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra is a powerful technique in which you learn to relax consciously. The state of true relaxation is reached by turning inwards and away from outer experiences. If the consciousness can be separated from external awareness and from sleep, it becomes very powerful and can be applied in many ways, for example, to develop memory, increase knowledge and creativity and transforms ones nature. How does this happen? When relaxation is complete, receptivity of the mind is greater. Through the practice of yoga nidra we are not only relaxing but restructuring and reforming our whole personality from within. Yoga Nidra means sleep with a trace of awareness. It is the state of mind in between wakefulness and dream. When you practise Yoga nidra you are opening the deeper phases of your mind. Here the nature of your mind can be changed, disease can be cured and your creative genius can be restored.
